Visit Panorama Mountain Resort
Panorama Mountain Resort sits in the Purcell Mountains near Invermere, about 160 kilometres from Canmore. With 1,322 metres of vertical drop, it has one of the largest verticals in BC and stays notably uncrowded for its size. The on-mountain village offers ski-in/ski-out accommodation, making it one of the better multi-day ski destinations within driving range of Canmore. In summer, Panorama runs a bike park, gondola sightseeing, and a Via Ferrata route. Canmore Travel provides private transfers from convenient pickup locations across Canmore, Harvie Heights, and Banff.
How Canmore Travel fits in: We provide private guided tours and transfers to Panorama from pickup locations in Canmore, Harvie Heights, and Banff. We do not sell tickets to third-party attractions.
What to See and Do at Panorama
Panorama's massive vertical, uncrowded terrain, ski-in/ski-out village, and summer bike park make it one of the most versatile mountain resorts within range of Canmore.
Skiing and Snowboarding at Panorama
1,322 metres of vertical across four alpine bowls and 120+ runs. Panorama's distinguishing feature is the sheer scale of its top-to-bottom descent, one of the longest in BC, combined with crowd levels that would be impossible at a comparably sized resort in Alberta.
The Top of the World zone at Panorama's 2,395-metre summit is the resort's most dramatic terrain, open bowls, couloirs, and sustained steep pitches that overlook the Columbia Valley far below. The summit chair accesses this high-alpine zone and is the starting point for Panorama's longest runs, which descend nearly the full 1,322-metre vertical to the base village in a single sustained pitch. On a clear day the view from the top encompasses Lake Windermere, the Columbia River, and the Rockies on the eastern horizon. For expert skiers, the Top of the World zone is the primary reason to make the drive from Canmore, terrain of this quality and scale is rare within two hours of the Alberta mountain corridor.
Skiing & Snowboarding
Summit Terrain
Expert and advanced terrain only. The summit chair is the access point. Views from the top extend east across Lake Windermere and the Columbia Valley to the Rockies.
Skiing & Snowboarding
Lower Mountain and Intermediate Terrain
Below the summit bowls, Panorama's lower mountain terrain is well-suited to intermediate skiers looking for long, sustained descents on well-groomed blue runs. The Skyline and Mile 1 zones offer consistent intermediate skiing through Purcell Mountain forest, with the ski-in/ski-out village visible below as a natural navigation anchor. The sheer vertical of the mountain means intermediate runs here feel longer and more rewarding than comparable-grade runs at smaller resorts, a cruising run from mid-mountain to the village base covers significant terrain without the abrupt pitch changes that interrupt flow at more compact ski areas. Beginners are well served by the lower mountain learning zones adjacent to the village.
Panorama's lesson and rental operation is run through the resort's ski school. Booking in advance on busy winter weekends is recommended.
Summer at Panorama
Panorama operates a full summer season with a mountain bike park, gondola sightseeing, Via Ferrata, and hiking trails through the Purcell Mountain terrain. The resort sits 18 kilometres from Invermere and Lake Windermere, making it a natural combination with a summer lake day.
The Panorama Bike Park opens in late June and runs through mid-September, using the same lift infrastructure as the ski operation to carry riders and bikes to the upper mountain. Trails range from beginner flow lines through the lower forest to technical expert descents on the steeper upper mountain terrain. The gondola operates for sightseeing visitors who want the mountain views without the bike, the ride to the summit provides the same Columbia Valley panorama in summer that skiers see in winter, with the addition of wildflowers, dense green Purcell forest, and the lake visible on the valley floor. Bike rentals and lessons are available at the resort.
Summer at Panorama
Panorama Bike Park and Summer Lift
Bike park open late June through mid-September. Rentals and lessons available at the resort. Gondola sightseeing access does not require a bike.
Panorama's Via Ferrata route operates through the summer season on the mountain's rock faces, offering guided fixed-route climbing for guests without prior climbing experience. The route uses iron rungs, cables, and platforms bolted into the cliff to create a safe but genuinely exposed mountain climbing experience. Harness, helmet, and kit are provided. Hiking trails through the surrounding Purcell terrain extend from the resort village into the adjacent forest and subalpine zones, with options ranging from easy valley walks to half-day summit hikes. The Purcell Mountain terrain here feels wilder and less travelled than the Banff-area trail network.
Summer at Panorama
Via Ferrata and Hiking
Via Ferrata requires advance booking through Panorama. Summer demand is high, book as far ahead as possible for July and August dates.
The Resort Village and Columbia Valley
Panorama's ski-in/ski-out village at the base of the mountain is one of the more functional resort villages in the BC Interior, not Whistler in scale, but a well-designed cluster of accommodation, dining, and services that makes multi-day stays easy. The Columbia Valley and Invermere are 18 kilometres below.
The Panorama village is built directly at the base of the ski terrain, with ski-in/ski-out access from most of the accommodation. The village includes a mix of hotel rooms and self-catered condominiums managed through RCR Hospitality, the same operator as Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. On-mountain dining covers a range from cafeteria-style lunch options to sit-down dinner. The outdoor hot pools at the village are open to resort guests and provide an accessible post-ski recovery option without leaving the mountain. For groups staying multiple nights, the village has enough amenity to make the resort fully self-contained.

Ski In Ski Out Village
Accommodation and dining through RCR Hospitality. Outdoor hot pools on-site. Self-contained for multi-night stays.
Panorama sits 18 kilometres up a paved mountain road from Invermere, close enough to combine in a single day, either starting at the lake and heading up to ski in the afternoon, or coming off the mountain for dinner in town. In summer, Lake Windermere's warm, swimmable water is 20 minutes from the resort village. The combination of mountain biking or hiking at Panorama in the morning and paddling or swimming on Lake Windermere in the afternoon is one of the most satisfying Columbia Valley summer itineraries. Invermere's downtown restaurants provide a genuine off-mountain dinner option that adds variety to a multi-day resort stay.

Invermere and Lake Windermere
The road from Invermere to Panorama is paved but climbs steeply. Winter tire requirements are enforced. A private driver handles the mountain road in all conditions.
When to Visit Panorama
Panorama's BC Interior location gives it a different snow character from the Alberta Rockies resorts, often wetter and heavier early in the season, but with excellent mid-winter conditions when the Purcell snowpack builds. The summer bike park and Via Ferrata make it a genuine four-season destination.
Panorama typically opens in late November with a mix of natural and snowmaking-assisted terrain. The BC Interior location means early-season snow can be wetter than Alberta. Terrain is limited early; mid-December usually brings fuller mountain opening as the Purcell snowpack builds. The drive over Highway 93 through Kootenay National Park is scenic year-round, so allow extra time in early winter if conditions are fresh.
Early Season (November to December)
January through March delivers the best combination of depth and quality. The Purcell snowpack is typically well-established by mid-January and holds through March. Full mountain is open including Top of the World, with expert terrain at its best. Crowd levels remain low relative to the mountain's size. Panorama on a mid-January weekday can feel genuinely uncrowded even on the expert summit terrain, a meaningful contrast to the Banff resorts on the same day.
Peak Season (January to March)
Panorama typically closes in mid-April. Warm Columbia Valley air reaches the mountain faster than in Alberta, making spring conditions arrive earlier. Soft spring snow by afternoon; morning groomers and corned upper mountain runs are the highlight of April skiing. Spring at Panorama pairs naturally with a visit to Invermere for the lake and early-season valley hiking before the bike park opens.
Spring (April to May)
Bike park and gondola typically open late June. Via Ferrata runs through September. Hiking trails are accessible through the summer. Warm Purcell summer days, Lake Windermere swimmable from late June, and Columbia Valley scenery at its best in July and August. Summer at Panorama works best as a combination: bike park or Via Ferrata in the morning, Lake Windermere and Invermere in the afternoon.
Summer (Jul-Sep)
