From a scenic flatwater float through the heart of Banff National Park to Class III rapids in Kananaskis Country, the Bow Valley has a river option for every comfort level.
Banff National Park is the hub for river experiences in the Rockies. The Bow River offers scenic flatwater floats past Mount Rundle, Vermilion Lakes, and prime wildlife habitat. Elk, beaver, and osprey are common along the route. Banff is also the gateway to the Kicking Horse River, with outfitter connections throughout the season.

The Kicking Horse River is one of the most celebrated whitewater runs in North America. Golden provides the base town; the Kicking Horse Resort area provides direct canyon access.
Golden is the base town for Kicking Horse River rafting, with outfitters who have built their identity around one of Canada's most dramatic whitewater rivers. Class III-IV rapids run through a deep limestone canyon, with glacier-fed volume that holds through the summer. Upper-river floats suit first-timers; full canyon runs are for experienced paddlers.

Jasper offers two distinct rafting rivers. The Athabasca runs Class II-III through broad mountain valleys with the Columbia Icefield visible on clear days. The Sunwapta River, fed by the Athabasca Glacier, moves faster through a narrower canyon at Class III+. Both are guided by outfitters in Jasper town, with 2 to 3 hours on the water.

Guided trips run Class II-III sections through forested canyon terrain. Options span half-day beginner routes to full-day technical runs on upper sections. The drive from Canmore is roughly 2 hours through the Crowsnest Pass.
