Moraine Lake + Lake Louise
By late afternoon, most visitors have already left. What remains is the quietest and most peaceful time of day at Moraine Lake and Lake Louise. The light becomes softer, the crowds disappear, and many times we have the famous Rockpile viewpoint entirely to ourselves. This tour is for travelers who want to experience the lakes in peace, not at peak crowd levels. If your ideal mountain soundtrack is birds and gentle waves rather than a hundred camera shutters, this is your tour.

For two weeks each September, the larches above Moraine Lake turn amber and gold against a sky that is almost always blue. The turquoise of the lake below makes the colour combination look unreal, and it is genuinely rare, one of the most concentrated larch displays in the Canadian Rockies.

Moraine Lake + Lake Louise
After the day tours leave and the road goes quiet, Moraine Lake becomes a different place. The turquoise shifts to deep blue under a darkening sky. On a clear night, the Milky Way rises directly above the Ten Peaks. Just the water, the mountains, and whatever the sky decides to offer.

This is the tour for guests who want to do something at the lakes, not just see them, with the whole day kept to your group. Canoe, hike to the Lake Agnes Tea House, or tackle Larch Valley. Because it's private, the day bends to you: linger where it's working, move on where it isn't.

Moraine Lake + Lake Louise
The morning light on Moraine Lake does something to the colour of the water that photographs never quite capture. By 8 AM it is just your group and your guide, heading through Banff National Park's wildlife corridors before the day-trippers arrive. The guide reads the morning as it comes: longer if the light holds, a detour if someone spots an elk.

Questions you might ask
Moraine Lake Shuttle: Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Parks Canada and Canmore Travel?
Parks Canada operates a basic shuttle from the Lake Louise Park and Ride, roughly 18 kilometres from Moraine Lake. There is no guide on the Parks Canada shuttle, and you must drive to Lake Louise to board it. Canmore Travel picks you up from Canmore, Harvie Heights, or Banff, covers the full route with an expert guide alongside you, and brings you back at the end of the day. The experience includes local commentary, wildlife spotting, and inside knowledge of the park you would not get on a bus. The Parks Canada shuttle is cheaper. Canmore Travel delivers more.Is the Parks Canada shuttle to Moraine Lake free?
The Parks Canada shuttle is not free, but it is a separate service from Canmore Travel. Parks Canada operates a shuttle from the Lake Louise Park and Ride (at the Lake Louise Ski Resort, 1 Whitehorn Rd) to Moraine Lake. A shuttle reservation fee applies, plus a valid Parks Canada day pass or annual pass. Check parks.canada.ca for 2026 pricing and availability. Note that this shuttle starts in Lake Louise, not Canmore or Banff, so you would still need to drive roughly an hour from most Banff hotels to reach the Park and Ride.Do I need a Parks Canada pass for a Canmore Travel tour?
Yes. All visitors to Banff National Park need a valid Parks Canada day pass or annual pass, regardless of which shuttle or tour operator they use. Purchase your pass online in advance at parks.canada.ca. The park pass is not included in the tour price.
How does pickup work? Where exactly do you pick me up?
Canmore Travel uses a 15-minute pickup window system rather than a single fixed time. When you book, your pickup stop and window are confirmed (for example, 8:00 to 8:15 AM at your Canmore stop). Be ready at the start of your window. The van works through a route of stops across Canmore, Harvie Heights, and Banff and arrives within the window. There are 19 pickup locations across the three towns. Your confirmation email includes your specific stop address and window time. See the full list of Pickup Locations.
Can I visit both Moraine Lake and Lake Louise on the same day?
Yes. All Canmore Travel tours include time at both Moraine Lake and Lake Louise in a single day. The Extended Time Tour gives you the most flexibility at each lake: enough time to walk to the Lake Agnes Tea House (allow 2 to 2.5 hours), canoe on either lake, or take the trail up to Consolation Lakes. The Sunrise Tour also visits both lakes. Your guide can advise on timing for specific activities once you are on the ground. See the Extended Time Tour page for a full breakdown of what is possible within the day.
